MOBILE, Ala. -- An insurance agent pleaded not guilty in Mobile’s federal court last week to allegations that she enrolled four patients at a Citronelle nursing home without their knowledge in order to obtain commissions from her employer.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Katherine “Kit” Nelson allowed Kimberly Bisslessi Eddins to remain free pending trial scheduled for October.

Assistant Federal Defender Chris Knight could not be reached for comment.

According to the indictment, Eddins worked as a sales agent for Coventry Health Care. From December 2008 through June 2009, she allegedly signed up four patients at Citronelle Convalescent Center, using their names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers.

Eddins received commissions on the sales totaling $3,800, according to the indictment.

The six wire fraud counts carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, although her actual punishment likely would be far less under advisory sentencing guidelines. If convicted of an aggravated identity theft charge, she would face a mandatory two-year prison sentence on top of that.
